Abstrakt

The research estimated the physical and mechanical properties of wood from eucalyptus clones, intended for sawn timber production, using destructive and non-destructive methods. Wood from six clones, named A, B, C, D, E, and F, was studied. The density, dimensional stability, and modulus of rupture were evaluated by destructive (static) technique, and the modulus of elasticity was assessed by destructive and non-destructive techniques (transverse vibration, longitudinal vibration, and stress wave). The effects of the clones and sampling positions were verified by analysis of variance and F-test (p < 0.05). When significant, the Scott-Knott test (p < 0.05) was applied to discriminate the means. Pearson's correlation coefficient was calculated to compare the non-destructive and destructive methods. In general, clones A, C, and E produced more stable wood. Clone C had the highest shear strength and Janka hardness. Clone C (position 1) achieved the highest parallel compression, and for position 2, clones D and F showed the highest means, while clone A had the lowest. Regression analysis for non-destructive and destructive methods indicated a good correlation, with a determination coefficient (R²) above 80%. Thus, based on the general characteristics, clones A, C, and E are the most suitable for sawn timber producing.
