Vacuum kiln drying of Cassia javanica was carried out during this experiment mainly with an aim to evaluate the species drying behaviour. For C. javanica the moisture content came down to 12.02% from an initial value of 71.25% within 52.5 hours. The wood samples of C. javanica species showed little amount seasoning defects. The wood samples were slow to dry below their respective fibre saturation points. A vacuum of 220 mm Hg and a temperature profile of 50ᵒC were applied throughout the procedure for the species. The drying of the species of C. javanica by this method has a very good prospect as this was dried within 52.5 hours, much quicker than that reported in conventional kiln drying of this species. No particular seasoning schedule was followed during the process as the main objective of the experiment was, to study the drying rate of the species.
