Abstract

This study focuses reducing the balsam content by carbonization and roasting of cashew shells for the production of a quality gas by gasification. The kiln used for roasting and carbonization is cylindrical kiln.It has a lid which ensures sealing, a chimney for drawing smoke. The parameters studied in the case of pretreatment are the temperature profile, the mass and energy efficiency of roasting and carbonization. The physicochemical analysis carried out by the hexane balsam extraction method made it possible to evaluate the balsam content on the raw shells and those treated by roasting and carbonization. The measured balsam rate is 26.20% for raw hulls, 22.67% for roasted hulls and 11.73% for carbonized hulls. In sum, pretreatment allowed the reduction of balsam by 13,50% for roasting and 48,25% for carbonization.Furthermore, measuring the energy content of these resources using a calorimetric bomb showed that the LHV of the shells is improved through the roasting and carbonization process. In fact, the LHV are respectively Reduction of … Bénéwindé Edwige et al. 468 JCBPS; Section B; August 2024 to October 2024, Vol.14, No.
