Abstract
Chapter 5 introduces engineered timber products to the discussion of materials and notes their growing adoption for mid-rise buildings. Products such as laminated veneer lumber (LVL) and cross laminated timber (CLT) are introduced and discussed, and their use in multi-storey buildings is illustrated. Fire-rating, engineering, and the connection details of timber are drawn out and explored, along with simple diagrammatic illustrations of the principles involved in this new, quickly growing segment of the construction market.
