Abstract

This study examined the effects of weathering, fungal exposure, and processing methods on wood plastic composites (WPCs) produced from whole tree Port Jackson biomass (PJT), Port Jackson wood only (PJW), and white oak. Composites were manufactured by compression and extrusion moulding with and without maleic anhydride grafted polyethylene (MAPE) as a compatibiliser. Prior to weathering, extrusion moulded PJT composites with MAPE exhibited the highest flexural strength (approx. 24 MPa) and tensile strength (approx. 17 MPa), while compression-moulded PJW composites with MAPE reached flexural strengths of up to 25 ± 1 MPa. After weathering, Oak-based WPCs retained the highest mechanical strength, showing minimal reduction (
