Drying shrinkage

Estimated change of a dimension while drying.

Allowed: 1 to 2000

Allowed: 0.1 to 25

Allowed: 1 to 200

Allowed: 0 to 30

Formula

Change % of green size = S · (MC_start − MC_end) / 30
(MC_start limited to 30 %, the assumed fibre saturation point)

Assumptions and limits

Linear shrinkage between the fibre saturation point (about 30 %) and the target. S is the total shrinkage coefficient for the species and direction (radial, tangential) from a source you trust. Real boards also distort.

Results are estimates from simplified formulas. Check them against your own measurements and applicable grading or trade rules before commercial use.
